I went to an adult sunday school class today which are always kind of interesting. you never know what may or may not happen. there are usually interjections that have no relevance to a given topic/issue. Today was different. The class began a new study in matthew. The teacher seemed as though he lived and breathed the text. I was surprised to see him engaging the class with his thoughts and questions not needing a max lucado study guide.
Then the teacher through out this statement that I never really thought about. We were in Matthew 3 and he asked the question where was Jesus' father? The class was silent and he stated that it was like that Joseph has passed away. Jesus spent some of his life fatherless. I found this interesting. The teacher asked if anyone lost their father at a young age-hand after hand went up-story after story was told.
I just sat there assuming I'd went into another field good 'whatever the text means to you class' but instead I found myself in an experience of relating to Jesus who kind of had to be the man of the house. Grow up sooner than probably most of his friends. I'm sure this affected his ministry. I took great comfort in this because I can resonate with Jesus. It's hard growing up fatherless. You wonder if your making a mark. Maybe that's why one of the the big themes of God is God is like a father...maybe not a bad marketing mistake afterall.
living from the back of the line,
